I like the idea, novel summer money saver.

However, As a Brooklyn boy born and raised who travels home to see MOM often, some things don't change; I sure hope the tents can be locked! And I don't think I'd want to be in the tent come late October!

I think it's a great idea for the summer if there aren't any rats around. $100 a month is very cheap for 'campground' fees. You'd easily pay $20 a night at some places near national parks in peak season.

Of course it seems nutty, but if you are really trying to be frugal and want to stay in NYC, I cannot possibly think of a cheaper way to do it than perhaps house-sitting for someone.

Eh. I can see the appeal. It's not just cheap, you also don't have to worry about a lot of things (big & small) that come with traditional living. Could be very freeing.

I'm sometimes a bit envious of those that live in 100 sq. ft. homes -- but my husband and 5 cats would not stand for it and we'd have to live somewhere cooler where we could spend much more time outside without sweating to death.
