It reminds me of college when a few enterprising guys would call their friends from the 'hood to come in and have open mic parties and charge everyone a dollar to come in an enjoy the fun. I'm pretty sure they paid for books every semester that way.

Politicians do a similar thing every election season with overpriced dinners.

Why not the same for a home? The only trouble could come into play when friends start feeling guilted into attending. Thus it should be done sparingly...once is enough.

It certainly was generous of her friends to help h...

It certainly was generous of her friends to help her out but for how long? Was this just delaying the inevitable? Nothing in the interview gave any indication that she was going to change her spending ways.
I have a friend that has been using her house as an ATM for 5 years now. She burned through her 401K when she quit work to be a stay at home mom 7 years ago and had to get her new house fixed up right away. Then the new Mercedes SUV was financed through a HELOC because she needed a bigger car to fit 4 kids into and the cost to maintain the BMW M5 was too much. I keep praying her husband doesn't lose his job. Meanwhile, he is on the road/plane 4 weeks out of the month because he needs a high pressure job to support their lifestyle and she complains that he never sees the kids. She's sold off the pearl choker necklace with vintage diamond broach, the silk carpets from Turkey, etc but can't stop putting the kids in expensive after school classes so she has downtime. It's a vicious cycle.

I'm surprised she HAS any friends, the way she's s...

I'm surprised she HAS any friends, the way she's so casual and flippant during the interview.
