| This column was never supposed to happen |
Marketwatch.com columnist Jennifer Openshaw's article: Personal journey brings a bundle of surprise to columnist recounts her very personal story of finding love, marriage, and ultimately having a child all in her 40's. This after focusing most of her 20's and 30's on her career and business. For the most part, I have lived a life focused on business, both building my own and educating people how to build theirs. It has been my passion and had absorbed most of my time and energies, leaving little for an engaged, committed personal life.
Then, four years ago, that all changed. As some of you may have read in a New York Times article, I had traveled to Italy after a difficult period in my life. I had just ended an 11-year relationship, and after selling my first company, I felt rudderless. I wanted time to reflect on those eternal questions: what to do with the rest of my life, how to balance the personal with the professional, etc. I think it is great that her mid-life crisis resulted in a happy family life. Personally I am hoping I reach my mid-life crisis point debt-free and ready to take on a new challenge - but one that will result in a lot less work in the second half of my life instead of more (children are a heck of a lot more work - rewarding I am sure, but still...) We all have different dreams and it is great to read about someone who is achieving them! |
