CVS offers bonus for reusing bags
This Boston Globe article caught my eye this morning: CVS offers bonus for reusing bags
For 99 cents, members of CVS’s ExtraCare rewards program will get a leaf shaped Green Bag Tag card, which can be attached to a cloth bag or knapsack. When they complete their purchases, the card will be scanned. After every fourth shopping trip, a $1 Extra Care Buck coupon will be printed on their receipt.

The Woonsocket, R.I., company said most of its 7,000 stores will have the tags within the next two weeks, and the program should be running at all stores by the end of November.
I will have to check my local CVS to see if these tags are available for purchase yet. Invest a dollar and then get $0.25 back every time I use it? Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Much better than safeway's .03/bag refund at chkout. But i guess every little bit helps.

It's kind of silly, but this is def. more appealling than the $.05 whold foods gives. (Is it even that? That's what I remember, but the $ incentive is so low, I don't even register it.) I still use my own bags, but for the environmental reasons, rather than the financial.

A quarter is 'useful' money, though, as opposed to a nickel, so it crosses my threshold of attention. (The only time a nickel does that is in the fundraising solicitaitons I keep getting from the Nat'l Diabetes Foundation. Great cause, but sending me a nickel in the letter where you complain about being relatively well-funded compared to other diseases Does Not Help your cause.)

I'm psyched about this and am watching for it in the Chicago area! I almost always bring my own bags to CVS so I will earn lots of ECBs this way.
Funny thing about the Whole Foods credit is that I love their high-end bags for trash bags and such. So I'm glad to see a store with crappy little bags I don't want offering a nice incentive.
