Boston Gal - just contact your local cooperative extension office for your county, and get a soil test through the Master Gardener program! It's cheap, quick, and these volunteers get a copy of your results too so they can help translate the information into the way normal people speak! The County Extension office exists to answer plant and agricultural questions and the MGs are volunteers who work with homeowners. Be "Green" and supporting your local programs. See http://www.wmassmastergardeners.org for more info! (I'm a Pennsylvania MG who loves your daily column more than morning coffee!)
