| The staycation is drawing to an end... |
*Sigh* My staycation is finally drawing to an end. I had a really relaxing, productive, and enjoyable week. I took a break from financial news (as you can likely tell from my post topics) and I think I really needed that black-out period. I feel like my financial anxiety level has calmed down and I am ready to once again wade into the economic fray.
But before I visit the business pages to see what I missed, one last staycation post...
I found a packet of clothes line I had purchased back when I was trying different drying area solutions for around the house. I never did return the unused line. Something about seeing the length of rope inspired me to play with it. Maybe having the Tall Ships in Boston this weekend dredged up some childhood memories. Growing up I spent my summers sailing. On foul weather days the sailing club would keep all of us children indoors and off the harbor. The old salts in the club would get tired of us running around and put us to work tying knots. I remember spending hours learning and perfecting the various knots and how and when to best use them on a ship.
So today, I picked up the clothesline and found that my hands remembered how to tie so many knots. It has been some twenty years - yet I can still do it! I forget the name of the knot in the picture above - but it is one long decorative hitch type knot that I remember using to make rope belts and bracelets with as a child. The clothesline rope is polyester - I really need some cotton or other softer and more pliable rope. Old and worn ropes really work best for some of the more elaborate decorative knot projects.
But since I have the clothesline, I think I will keep playing with it and see how many useful things I can create with it. The knot pictured I finished and made into a bracelet for my 9 year old Niece just a couple of hours ago. I think I will be spending my last staycation hours tying myself in all sorts of knots! :)
Update: For the one person who seemed interested - I just uploaded a photo of my afternoon's efforts - another bracelet and a matching necklace (or could be used as a hair band).Labels: Upcycle |

Hi Boston Gal,
I LOVE rope jewelry. I paid a hefty amount for a rope bracelet when I visited Nantucket last month for a day trip. I wish I knew how to make them. Post some more photos of what you are making today, I would love to see a clearer picture!

I really like that rope bracelet and necklace you made. How much would that cost in a store? How much do you think it cost for you to make it?

I stood in line to tour one of the tall ships today. It was totally worth it. Such a wonderful way to enjoy a day in Boston and reconnect with the harbor.
I really like what you made. Where can you buy rope jewelry in Boston?
