| Net Worth July 2009 |
Once again the financial fates have been kind to me and my Net Worth has edged up this month. Investment gains certainly helped me out. But I can also thank the almost seamless transition between basement tenants. Getting the unit occupied so quickly meant that I did not have to dip into savings to cover an interruption in rental income.

Next month should be slightly more exciting for my numbers since I will finally be pulling the trigger on my new car purchase. You can look forward to future posts on this topic.

Okay, I hate to be the downer here, because you should be congratulated for saving this much. But it may be time to consider adjusting the value of your home. I know here, you wouldn't get any more than you paid for it in 2004.

Hi Erica,
A few months ago I did adjust the real estate values. While my primary home went down, my investment condo went up - my overall values went down, but since I had not factored in my investment condo appreciation for many, many years it balanced out the hit from my 2004 home purchase.
I am very comfortable with the value on that line of my Net Worth report. It should jump again next month when I purchase the new car and trade in the old one...

Ok, fair enough. I know these things are subjective, but it sounds like you have a pretty balanced opinion. Thanks for the update!

Would really like to hear how you car research is going on...and what factors are you using to decide upon a car.

Have you ever said what your mortgage rates are? I'm trying hard to get over 2% on my savings and my mortgage is a 1-yr ARM at 4.125 - have you thought of paying principal down quicker? Do you get a full interest deduction on the mortgage if you rent a room in your house?

Do you have a job? Does your boss know that you are being pretty candid about your net worth? I think it is great and I am sort of doing the same thing, except, I'm not so open about mine. And, one of the managers that interviewed me for a job I ultimately got, actually said he was "pretty wary of me putting my personal wealth information out there, from an accounting perspective."
