| Solar as Amish temptress? |
The Christian Science Monitor report The Amish go solar – in a simple way reports that to the Amish, my solar panels peg me as someone who is dangerously independent. An elaborate system of solar panels – one larger than a family needed for some specific task to earn a living – would also depart from a “plain” lifestyle. It could unnecessarily burden a family’s finances. It could also make residents less dependent on each other for basic needs. Now I know that if a buggy ever happens to clip clop past my home the occupants are likely looking at my roof and judging me as self-sufficient or perhaps prideful - Oh the shame!Labels: Solar Panels |

Solar panels are amazing. It's great that you have them. I gushed to my friends landlord (too much wine) over how cool he was for having solar panels on his house in Medford. When I become a homeowner, I plan on getting solar panels no matter what.
As for the rest of the simple life mentality... I'm a city kid. I don't do horses. They bite.

I think that people nowadays are jaded by the "cool" factor of solar panels. Green/organic living seems to be the flavor of the last year/couple of years. Eventually it will die down and there will be another lifestyle fad for folks to live by. I support the mentality and agree w/the benefits, but it seems that the actions are very superficial.

The actions are superficial?
The actions are being driven by grants. I blame our superficial government for this fad then...
