That Michigan woman who froze in her bed might not have been 100% right in the head. Who saves money by turning the heat off in the winter - everyone in northern climates know you risk burst pipes and fixing those are very costly indeed.
But I agree with Boston Gal - very sad.

She was an Indiana woman. Michigan City is in Indiana. Carry on.

There has to be more to this story - I'm from New York State and winter camping is done here - in tents with sleeping bags and nobody dies. And how about the people up on Everest going for it - no heat either at night in their tents.

I think the quote by the frugal saver is sad.
“I saved. Why would I go home?” Navone asked CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman. “I didn’t have a life.”
He didn’t have a wife or children or a phone or a television. All of which are reasons he was able to save most of his paycheck and let it grow.

RE: Strategic Frugal -- Keeping an extra fridge and a freezer doesn't sound all that strategically frugal to me. Whatver she thinks she's saving by clipping coupons and buying ahead in bulk is being offset by what the two extra major appliances consume in electric power.
