| Still speculating on Target merchandise |
USAToday's article: Online resales worry retailers shows that the reselling of discount store merchandise (first reported in the WSJ back in march - see link to post below) for hefty profits is still happening. However, stores are starting to put limits on the amounts folks can purchase to try to curb this practice. Not really sure that will stop these folks - I assume they will just plan on shopping with friends to get the quantity they need. Triss Budoff of Houston spent about $1,000 on 25 Rafe handbags that were available for a limited time at Target. But Budoff didn't use the purses. Instead, she posted 10 of them on eBay and earned about $750 in profit.
"I viewed it as a low-risk investment," Budoff says. "Anything I didn't sell I could return to the store within 90 days and get my money back." - Speculating on Target clothing!?! |

Before it got too competitive, I used to make a few extra dollars selling Gymboree on Ebay.
Now, I resell my girls' clothing on Ebay. I buy them about 99% Gymboree and then resell it the following year. I generally end up getting about 80% of my money back. Occasionally, I will have something that sells for more than I paid for it - there are some crazed Gymboree moms out there.

Wow, what a hustle. A $750 profit plus she could return the bags in 90 days if it did not sell. You cannot beat that hustle.

What if people had to pay a small premium if they want the option to return stuff for resons other than defect. But this could also increase returns for stuff in which people pay the premium. I just think it is wasteful for people to return stuff for no reason.
