| Many a slip twixt and tween mailing in for a rebate and getting money |
This Boston Globe article: Many a slip twixt and tween mailing in for a rebate and getting money warns of the pitfalls of rebate fulfillment. The reporter details how he finally received his $300 rebate. Along the way, I learned a few tricks of the mail-in rebate game, including the importance of keeping records, not taking no for an answer, and complaining directly to the store that advertised the rebate if you are having problems with the product's manufacturer. I am working on a $10 General Mills rebate (PDF form) - but the first step of any rebate is to read the form carefully. This one states you need to purchase 10 DIFFERENT items to get your $10. So ten boxes of Cheerios will not work - but a box of Cheerios, a box of Total, etc. will.
I would never buy a product just to get a rebate - but if items on the list are things I would buy anyway (and definitely if they are also on sale) paying attention to deals like this are generally worthwhile. |
