Money Makeover - Jennifer Jaynes and Troy Daniels
Today's Boston Globe has the following Money Makeover: For richer, for poorer. Jennifer Jaynes (26) and Troy Daniels (38) have been dating for six years and are now planning on getting married.
The exercise was enlightening. "I was a little surprised," said Jaynes of the financial numbers. "I didn't know any of this."

She found that her fiancé's annual salary and rental income totals about $125,000, or nearly four times what she expects to make next year. The couple's net worth -- after factoring in Jaynes's $13,000 in school loans and Daniels's $57,000 mortgage -- came to just under $500,000. That puts them in the top 5 percent of people in their 30s, Levenson said.
I found it interesting that she had been dating him for six years but did not know how much he made. Perhaps I should not have been surprised - but still - six years and the subject never came up once?!? But then, maybe she did not know how to broch the subject and that is why she volunteered for the makeover...

Interesting. I'd also be a little worried about my finance not realizing such a significant financial situation, and how hard it was to accumulate it. To some, it might seem like winning the lottery and giving them a license to spend. If it hasn't happened yet, they had better have the hard talk about money and spending philosophy, and quick!

I don't find it surprising, she starting dating a 32 year old when she was 20 years old.

I'm not really surprised. Obviously she did sign up for the makeover to get the facts. I was interested where he says in the article that he wasn't interested in the pre-nuptial. Also likes social/environmental funds etc. Possibly he is idealistic in the way of not wanting money issues to get in the way of the relationship, perhaps downplayed how much he earns or has.

My current situation where my girlfriend knows all the details from my blog is the rather unusual situation.

Hmm.. a 38yr old programmer marrying a 26 yr old massage therapist, and they're both into Renaissance Fairs.... I wish there would've been pictures accompanying the article! :)
