| I am Jane Dough again! |
Regular readers may remember that back in October I was mentioned in a New York Times article. As a result of that article I received an email notifying me that I had infringed on a trademark. This led me to remove my old pseudonym "Jane Dough" from this blog.
Well, a few weeks ago the Editor of the website WomensWallStreet contacted me. After hearing about the blogger out there who was using her "Jane Dough" name, she visited my blog and started reading. It turns out she liked what I was doing here. Liked it enough that she offered me an amazing opportunity. WomensWallStreet was about to launch a blog - would I like to blog as Jane Dough there? I get to keep my Boston Gal blog - but also become a paid blogger for them!
I was amazed. Someone would like to pay me to blog about personal finances? Pretty much do the thing I do here - just over there - and do it as my beloved Jane Dough!?! I was both flattered and thrilled. I am not a professional writer and it is a bit scary for me to realize I am about to become one (sort-of - maybe professional blogger is the word?) Also, I have a day job and already spend a lot of time on Boston Gal. Can I do it all? So, I decided to take some time to learn more about WomensWallStreet before making a decision.
The site has loads of articles and a few days of reading gave me a good feel for the content. For the most part I liked the focus of the site. While reading I wondered why I had not stumbled on them before? Then I found this article: A Blackberry Jam, by Kerry Gladden, the very Editor who had made me the offer, and that clinched it.
For me, WomensWallStreet was not some faceless corporation anymore. It was a company who had women I could relate to working for it. Just as I am passionate about the readers who visit Boston Gal, Kerry expressed her dedication to her readers. We both want the same thing - to empower women to gain control of their finances.
So I have accepted the offer and now can be found blogging on DailyCents.com as Jane Dough. Last week I started with some initial posts to introduce the WomensWallStreet readers to me - so most of that content is familiar to regular readers of Boston Gal. However, this morning I posted my first unique post - Quest for Cheap Eyeglasses - so hop on over to the WomensWallStreet blog and let me know what you think! |

Congrats! Are you the only one who will be blogging under Jane Dough or is it a shared blog?
-
Hi Udandi,
At this time I am "Jane Dough" on the blog - not "Ask Jane Dough" on the main site. They still own the name - so I guess they could decide at some point to replace me - fingers-crossed that I can manage to do a good job and keep blogging under "Jane Dough"!
Additional bloggers "BrokeGirl" and "Managing Mom" should be contribuing again soon - I think.
The blog is brand new and I think they are watching to see if this catches on with their readers or not.
-
congrats! I can't believe I knew you before you were famous.
-
Ah, that makes sense. We saw that we're linked on that blog, so we checked it out and saw "Jane Dough" as one of the authors. I was actually going to email you about it, but I guess everything worked out. Congrats!
-
That is fantastic, congratulations! I couldn't find your eyeglasses article on that site, though-- will you post a direct link?
-

The first thing I did when you said you were hired, I checked your name. Will they let you change it back?
Congrats, it sounds like a great opportunity. I do like their site. I started checking them out after they issued your infringement notice.

Congratulations. I love reading your blog and have listed you on my main page, too. After all, you inspired me to calculate my net worth! Now I will have to check out your articles on womens wall street. Way to go!
