| More Fun with Comcast |
Comcast is my cable and broadband internet provider. They are trying very hard to become my VOIP phone service provider. The other day a particularly tenacious Comcast sales rep caught me on the phone and after many minutes of saying no, no, no to Comcast voice, he then offered a more interesting deal. Was I interested in upgrading my cable service? Perhaps trying out a premium channel for free for 30 days? Since me likes free I said sure - how about 30 days of Showtime? I then proceeded to OD on Showtime series (Marathon viewing of Season 2 of Weeds and watched a bunch of episodes of the new show Dexter) and a few movies. While I was only a few days into my 30 free days, I called Comcast and decided to cancel.
This is where things get interesting. The rep on the phone said my account did not have the 30 days free code entered - so my days of Showtime viewing were being charged to my account. After some arguing on my part the rep decided to believe me and said I would be rebated the 30 days. She then proceeded to cancel my Showtime subscription. Just to be sure, I then asked her to tell me what my next Comcast bill would amount to - the amount she quoted was $20 less than I would have expected. It seems I am being rebated the full month of Premium channel service even though I only was charged a few days - so I was coming out ahead in this whole deal.
I will truly believe it once the bill arrives, but right now it appears that the annoying telemarketing sales call has given me a long weekend of free Showtime viewing and a $20 discount on my bill...
- Comcast, the bill, and me - Oh Comcast - how you test me! - Comcast was right and I was wrong?!?! |

Ugh, cable companies. We do the same dance with Charter, our cable provider. I was on the phone with them for over an hour yesterday arguing about our bill.
You were smart to cancel Showtime before you got too addicted. We made the mistake of trying out the DVR service a couple of years ago as part of some kind of special deal and now we're hooked. I think we'd have to go to therapy if we had to give up the ability to pause and rewind whatever we're watching along with the on-screen programming. :-}

I tell ya. Some of those CSRs could earn the genius of the year award. They do things bass ackwards, then end up giving away free money to clean up their mess. I love it though! LOL
Congrats on the freebies!

I have Comcast VOIP. The setup was pretty shaky for the first month (it took THREE techs to figure out that my signal split between the TV, phone, and modem had left the phone signal too faint). Since then, it's been pretty decent. And I LOVE having three accounts on one bill.
They keep pushing me to "try" digital cable/a premium channel too, but I know I'd just start watching all the episodes of The Wire on HBO On Demand and then be unable to give it up.
But good for you for getting a freebie!
