Summer Spending Insight
I am finding it harder to economize this summer. I know I should turn off the A/C and just deal with the heat, but that is not happening. It is not so much the heat as the humidity that is defeating me. I should cook more and eat out less, but again, that is not happening. The days are longer, the sun is shining. I don't want to rush home and make dinner. Instead I want to linger outside the house, and generally that means paying to eat away from home.

I am wearing lighter clothes and walking more this time of year. I don't want to be dragged down with bags filled with water bottles and packed lunches. So I am buying more convenience items while out and about.

The book buying has started to get a bit out of control. While I won't carry a heavy water bottle all day, I will carry a book. Something to do while I sit outside enjoying the sun and weather. When I do get back inside my nice cool house, I continue to read since TV has fewer shows on this time of year that I want to watch.

When I am shopping I seem to have less patience to look for the best price. I seem to just grab and go. I dread the hot car trip back home and want to get the trip over with as fast as humanly possible.

Conclusion: I think I am a foul-weather economist and a fair-weather spender.

    I hear ya!

Our way to beat the heat this year was to buy a couple of kayaks. We go out every weekend; no need for A/C (we're in Seattle, so we only need it a few times a year anyway, but this has been an unusually hot summer for us) and we get exercise too! We have been speding more in sunscreen purchases though. ;-)

I hate to admit it, but I am too. Although, this week I did good with meals at home. I made a pasta salad, egg salad, cucumber salad, and had my husband grill out a couple of nights.

Just to make you feel better - we have experienced some cooler weather the last couple of days and today I was able to turn off my a/c (illinois). I couldn't before because I too hate humidity. Anyway it is coming your way. :-)

Planning and doing are two different things. Sound like your just a regular person dealing with life to me.

Girl, even if the cost of A/C was $1,000/kilowatt, I'd still pay for it. LOL In my house, it runs 24/7 if the weather is above 75 degrees. It's even on when I'm not at home. I can't stand being hot. My mom says it's because I was born in December. I don't know what it is, but I do know that I HATE HATE feeling hot and clammy. Imo, A/C is a luxury worth paying for.

As for the eating out and extra books...I'm guilty too. What's a girl to do? I can't say I'm a fair-weather spender because every season brings a new vice for me. ;-)

Enjoy the weather. We only get a few good months.
