A Saving Hero?
Today's Boston Globe has the story: Cartoon figure can teach kids -- and adults -- about value of saving, about a recent episode of the Higgly Town Heros on Disney which highlight saving and had a banker "hero".

I do sometimes think people forget the basics - like save your money and spend less than you earn. It is great that children's shows are highlighting some of these simple but important concepts.

Interestingly, I originally learned personal finance via comic books as a young kid. I believe The Fed still publishes them for free.

I just posted my insanely simple tip of spending less than you earn :) It was a short post since there isn't much to say beyond that!

I've seen that episode (Princess and Buddy pretty much only watch Disney channel). The one little boy wins the science fair and gets 10 coins, but he wants to buy a toaster that costs 15 coins. He and his friends realize that if he saves his 10 coins and waits until his birthday when he usually gets 5 coins from his family, then he'll be able to buy the super duper toaster that he wants. Then they go through a bunch of different ideas of where he can save the money, until finally they wind up at the bank. It is cute, and it does reinforce the idea of saving.

Here's the link to the comic books that Mike mentioned... http://www.ny.frb.org/publications/result.cfm?comics=1

He's probably referring to "A Penny Saved."
