| NPR story debunking "Too Late for Prince Charming" study |
20 Years Later, Marriage Study Doesn't Hold Up "Too Late for Prince Charming?" was the cover story in Newsweek magazine 20 years ago this Friday. The magazine reported on a study that indicated college-educated women over the age of 40 had a less than 3 percent chance of getting married -- leading to the famous "more likely to be killed by a terrorist than find a mate" line. Two decades later, Madeleine Brand reports that most of the women involved in the original study are now married, and that other study findings have proven untrue. |

I think the interesting follow up would be if these late marrieds are less likely to get a divorce because they spent longer choosing a spouse. Does it pay to be picky and delay marriage?

Interesting... I also wonder if later marriages stick together because the cost of a divorce when you are 50 or older is much larger than if you are 30 or so.
