| ING Direct referral link experiment |

If you click on my current Net Worth number on the sidebar you will see that I have an ING Direct savings account. I have been a happy ING customer for years. While I have tried other online saving accounts (and currently have an HSBC Direct account as well) so far ING is the easiest and simplest to use. I recently introduced my Mother to high yield online saving accounts with ING Direct and she is very happy with it.
One of the best things about ING Direct is the referral program. If someone sends you a referral and you open an account with a minimum $250 deposit - you get a $25 opening bonus - that is an immediate 10% return on your $250 deposit! ING Direct currently has a 3% annual percentage yield variable rate. $25 bonus and 3% interest - that is why I LOVE ING Direct!
So here is the experiment. Below is a one time use referral link. If you use it to open an ING Direct account and make that $250 deposit, you will get that $25 bonus (and I will get a $10 referral bonus - win, win for everyone). I have noticed that a few pfbloggers have had success handing out bonuses links this way. Once this link is used up I will repost with another link (until I run out of bonus referrals). Note: You will know the link is a good one if you click on the Open Now! Go button on the Orange Saving Account page. The application page that appears should have blue text at the top that says:

Make an explanation page and list a number of the links - it will greatly increase your chances of getting a conversion. We tried with a single link and got feedback that with only one people were concerned another person might be trying to use it at the same time
We started this about 6 months ago and have converted close to 200 now. It can be done and earn both you and your readers a bit of extra money

have you ever tried referring yourself to open a new account to get 25 in new and 10 in old? is this possible with ing?

I would not recommend that approach anonymous. If you have a spouse they can open an account and you can give them the bonus. But the same individual can't get two opening bonuses.

You can only get one $25 opening bonus per person (social security number). However, if someone else in your family wants to open an account (who does not already have one) they can do so and get $25...

Glad that worked out for you. ING is really good about posting the bonus. Just one little word of warning - if you don't fund the account with $250.00 (per the terms) within 30 days they will take back that bonus...
However, if you do fund it with $250.00 you get the bonus fair and square and can even close the account after 30 days and keep that $25! It is a very good deal.

If I have a ING account already, can I open another with one of your links and still get the bonus (with you getting your bonus as well)?

ING Direct is generous with its new account bonus - but only for NEW ACCOUNTS! The same person can not receive two opening bonuses. If you have a spouse who does not yet have an account they can certainly open one.

I've already got an ING account, but I've been doing a bit of personal finance blogging. How did you make each of the links? The only way I know of right now do do the referrals is to send an email to someone through ING.

Canadians can get the bonus too. Open with a minimum of 100 and get a thirteen dollar bonus. I'm adding links to my pf blog tomorrow. Hope this helps!

Great tip. I've been looking at ING for a bit, comparing them to Schwab, but I think I'll take your offer. Also, for readers in small business, at Bank of America if you open a Business Economy checking account, even if you deposit nothing, after sixty days they'll give you a hundred bucks. I just got my hundred bucks last week! Yes, we all love free money.
