Why can't somebody come up with a series of books for "otherwise intelligent people who don't happen to know much about a particular topic" books. For those of us who don't want a shelf full of Dummies books?

I don't like buying a 'Dummies' book because I am not a dummy. I'm just a normal person, intelligent than many ;) who want to learn about a new topic.
