| Festival of Frugality #10 |
I had a lot of fun hosting the Festival of Frugality this week. Since today is Valentine's day I decided to go with that as a theme for describing the posts. The order is pretty much as received, however I did place Claire's at the top because she almost got overlooked in the SPAM bin of the festival mailbox and well, I just could not let that happen to such a nice fellow blogger! My Valentine for all of you is at the bottom.
If this is your first time visiting Boston Gal's Open Wallet, Welcome! To learn more about me click on the About Me link on the side bar. If you are more interested in the financial stuff click on Net Worth for that series of links. I do a "Link Love" exchange about once a month and if you would like to participate send me an Email (click on Jane Dough to get the address). If you like my blog and would like to keep up with the posts, add me to your blog reader of choice. Here are some easy links to do just that.

Now that all that is out of the way - Let the Frugal Festivities Begin!
Claire of Tired but happy posts Frugal food for a crowd. If the quickest way to the heart is really through the stomach, it looks like Claire is seducing her whole community with her cooking while keeping a firm hand on her budget!
David Porter of Pacesetter Mortgage Blog posts Mortgage Pre-Payments at Slowest Pace Since 2003. Don't let your love shack feel the tremors of rising interest rates. If you haven't already, take David's advice and lock in those rates!
Big Cajun Man of Canadian Financial Blog posts Tax increase on Cigarettes. We all know that love can hurt and it looks like a hike in the "sin tax" in Ontario is going to cause pain for those in love with smoking.
~Dawn of Frugal For Life posts Living on Less, Having an Abundance. While ~Dawn's 'scarcity' switch might be turned on, the abundance of love her many online admires feel for her will never switch off!
FMF of Free Money Finance posts A Great College Money Saving Tip. Ah, the advice is like giving your child a super early Valentine. While being able to graduate in three years instead of four can be a good thing, knowing that Dad may only pay for three out of the four could be the threat that motivates junior.
Jenn of Frugal Upstate posts Saving Money on Printer Cartridges. Having lots of ink cartridges on hand for all those Valentine cards you can print at home is a good thing I am sure!
Jose Anes of Anes Weblog posts Miata Survived. The old girl is purring like a young kitten again. If only we all could feel like that after visiting a mechanic! ;)
Jim of Blueprint for Financial Prosperity posts Play Board Games, Save Money. I can see it now, the long lingering looks exchanged while selecting the letter tiles from the bag. The flirty and suggestive words spelled out on the board. Sounds like a perfect indoor Valentine date night is shaping up at Jim's house tonight!
Caitlin of Clutter2Cash posts 6 Meals From a Costco Chicken. Frugal food from fire-roasted fowl? How divine! Keep those yummy and healthy recipes coming!
Seattle Simplicity posts Words of Wisdom for Your Simplicity Journey. She is holding firm against the slings and arrows others might throw her way when disparaging some frugal choices she has made. Give yourself a hug and some love for that one girl!
EarlyRiser of Early Riser who posts: IndexInvestor.com: Best $25 Spent may find himself in a world of hurt if he presents this gift to Mrs. EarlyRiser today. Remember, while you may find investor online newsletters sexy your significant other may think "not so much".
J. A. Random of Mission:Nontrivial posts Woodstove Savings. Not only is he savings loads of money on his gas bill, but all winter long he is "setting the mood" with that fire burning in that woodstove!
Nickel of fivecentnickel.com posts Moissanite Instead of Diamonds. What says love like a stone originally discovered in a meteorite crater in Arizona, but now man-made in North Carolina? Made in the USA and diamond-like, that has got to make the little lady happy!
Jeffrey Strain over at Personal Finance Advice is making my heart go pitter-patter in his post Do Your Taxes For free. Is it just me or does everyone think men seem taller and handsomer when saying things like "free e-filing" and "refund direct deposit"?
mbhunter of Mighty Bargain Hunter posts his tale of money saving woe in You win some ... We have all been there mbhunter. That seductress known as SALE who teases and taunts us. We chase her and finally claim her only to walk to the next store and find her charms have been outshone by a newer and sexier SALE. So goes amour!
Humble Investor over at A Frugal Focus posts Frugal Focus Bank Shopping Part 3 - Incentive Programs. Looks like Humble has put his spreadsheet calculator to good use to find some potential grocery store saving opportunities. Now I wonder what he could use that found money to buy on this Valentine's day???
Adam Graham of Adam's Blog may have found the best Valentine gift for the one you love, detailed in his post - Money Saving Chronicles #5: Prepaid Legal Examined. While this may not be the most cost effective, what says love like a lawyer on retainer?
Josh Cohen of Multiple Mentality is grudgingly celebrating this holiday of love. His post gives a brief eye-witness survey of Valentine's day card price points in One More Vday Observation. His theory that men have only higher priced cards to choose from in the "Wife" section could be true. But then for what he is looking for his wife to do for him this holiday it should be worth the $5 - No?
circle of smart money management posts Parking tips in New York City. If you are planning on taking your sweetie into the Big Apple for a little Valentine dinner, check out this post for some tips to help save on the parking.
And now that the Festival has come to its end I would like to leave my readers with a heart-felt and money oriented love song by the great country western bard Mike Snyder - click on the title to read the lyrics to his masterful song If My Nose Was Running Money. Croon this one in your true love's ear and I guarantee a response.
Happy Valentine's Day Folks! |
