$30 for 3 teenage boys to shovel snow
Staying warm and toasty indoors, supervising with a hot mug of cocoa warming my hands - priceless!

Now it is true that I could have saved myself that $30 and taken care of the estimated 16"s of snow myself, but frankly I was dreading it. The snow began at 5AM and was still falling at 5PM. So all day I have been wondering - should I shovel now? What about now? Is it stopping now? Just as I was about to suit myself up and reluctantly tackle the snow my doorbell rang and there stood 3 neighborhood teenagers. They started by asking for $15 a piece, but knowing how short my driveway is (literally the length of a car and currently filled with two cars - so it was really just cleaning off the cars and shoveling the path between) and from experience how light and fluffy this snow is I talked them down to $10 each and told them to forget about the back door - just do the front steps, sidewalk, driveway, and clear the path to the mailbox. So the young backs took care of the snow (ah youth - you have no idea how lucky you are!) and I rewarded three enterprising young men with $30 for 30 minutes of labor.

that's a pretty good deal no matter how you slice it ;) and it's certainly not a bad use of money

I do this frequently, even when I have a snowblower and I can do the work very quickly.

Having kids shovel the snow for money teaches them the value of it. They learn that money is earned through hard work and they may value it more. They may want to keep it in their wallets for things that really matter.
