Massachusetts Home Foreclosures
Today's Boston Sunday Globe featured the story: Home foreclosures on the rise. A couple of things made this article interesting. The first being the quotes from the homeowner, who stills lives in the property with her family, about what it is like going through this foreclosure. It is sad to see that four adults are living in that house yet none of them seem able to make the payments. The second was the reporters observation "that Massachusetts is in middle of the pack in foreclosure filings compared to the rest of the nation."

My take away from this article? While home foreclosures are up in Massachusetts the reasons behind each foreclosure are varied and complicated. Understanding that and keeping the national picture in mind I should not panic. This does not mean that the sky is falling on property values in Massachusetts. However, it does reinforce my desire to keep a defensive position by continuing to save and avoid additional debt.
