The financial results of eBaying my way to a cleaner house
As I posted previously in eBaying my way to a cleaner house, I recently spent some time rounding up and listing lots of paperback books on eBay. Below are the financial results:

Listed 8 lots of books - 7 sold

Final Sale Amount: $94.50

Listing fees: $5.60*
Final Value fees: $3.09
PayPal fees: $4.84
Shipping fees: $19.83

Total money made selling my used books on eBay: $61.14
*Listing fee is for 8 lots, final value fees are for 7 since 1 lot of books did not sell.

The 7 lots that sold contained a total of 52 books. My return was $1.18 per book - double the amount a paperback typically sells for at a yard sale.

I generally leave the profits from my eBay sales in my PayPal account to fund future purchases. After this little exercise, I will try to be much better about purchasing used paperbacks since they cost a fraction of new and reselling them could make my reading habit a free one!

Fabulous!! I am a book hog and do not have room for all my books and never thought of selling them in lots. Thanks for the inspiration, I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

excellent idea to sell them in lots... I might try that too. so many times paperbacks on amazon go for pennies and I wonder how anybody has *any* profit margin off those books.

    ebay...lots...got it! :)

Great work! I have been doing a similar exercise and selling everthing that I havent used in the past 1-2 years. So far I have made $716.25. Only 283.75 away from reaching my goal of $1k.

Hey there, me again! :) Aren't there any bookstores in your area that buy books? I'm sure your RoR would have been much better there. At Powell's Books here in Portland, OR I know you could have recevied way more. Approximately 10-25% of the cover price per book. At least they sold though and didn't just waste your money.
